To cancel your shinyapps.io account, or to downgrade from a higher subscription to a lower subscription (https://www.shinyapps.io/#pricing), you will need to make sure your account meets the entitlements of the plan you are downgrading to. As noted in the user guide, here is how to return to the Free plan:
- Archive all but 5 applications
- Archive, or make public, any private applications
- Reduce the size of your Application Instances to Large or smaller
- Remove all additional users from the Account (Pro only)
If you receive an error, your account likely does not match the Free or lower subscription entitlements. Please note that account changes, including downgrades and cancelations, can only be made from the account owner's dashboard.
If your error indicates you have more applications than the plan allows:
You will need to archive all but 5 applications in your account to downgrade to the free plan: https://docs.posit.co/shinyapps.io/guide/applications/#archiving-your-application.
You can also delete your application(s) entirely by following these instructions: https://docs.posit.co/shinyapps.io/guide/applications/#deleting-your-application.
If your error indicates you need to change your application's privacy settings:
On the free tier, all of your applications need to be set to Public. You can read how to update your application(s) privacy settings here: https://docs.posit.co/shinyapps.io/guide/authentication_and_user_management/.
If your error indicates you have an application with an instance type that is not supported:
Your application instances need to be set to Large or smaller. You will need to click on your applications and update the instance size as applicable.
Your instance size is available to view once you have clicked on the application; it is highlighted in the Overview box. To lower it, click on the Settings tab and change the size to large:
You can also delete your application entirely by following these instructions: https://docs.posit.co/shinyapps.io/guide/applications/#deleting-your-application.
If your error indicates that you have an application with more instances than allowed by your subscription type:
You will need to click on each of your applications to find any using more instances than allowed by the plan you are moving to and update the instance size as applicable.
Free | Starter | Basic | Standard | Professional | |
Max Application Instances (per application) | 1 | 1 | 3 | 5 | 10 |
If your error indicates you have more members than allowed:
The Professional plan is the only plan that allows for additional members in the account. You will need to remove all additional members by clicking on the trash icon next to their name on the Account > Members page:
If you believe you have followed all these steps correctly and are still receiving an error or are unable to cancel, please feel free to contact our support team at support@posit.co.
