Problem
When installing RStudio Workbench for the first time, you may experience an error message similar to the one below:
ERROR Potential hang detected: could not get database connection from pool after 30 seconds. If issue persists, please notify RStudio Support
This will usually occur after the installation has completed & you are attempting to start RStudio Workbench.
Solution
You'll only really see this error in the calendar based versions of RStudio Workbench. That is, versions newer than RStudio Workbench v1.4.1717-3, which is also known as Juliet Rose. From RStudio Workbench v2021.09.0+351.pro6, which is also known as Ghost Orchid, the CPU requirements are slightly different to the versions before it.
The calendar-based versions of RStudio Workbench require at least two(2) CPU cores. One(1) of these threads is for the database, and the other thread is used for all other processing & functionality. The reason for this error message is if you're using a VM or server that has a single CPU or vCPU. Increasing this CPU or vCPU to two(2) or more will resolve the issue.
