RStudio Connect Azure is perfect for proof of concepts and urgent or important shorter-term projects or those with unusual compute requirements. Use push-button publishing from your RStudio IDE, scheduled execution of reports, and simple password authentication (default) to put your data products into the hands of thousands of end-users or just a few colleagues in minutes and hours instead of the days or weeks that conventional enterprise provisioning or procurement can take. See https://www.rstudio.com/products/connect/ for more general information about RStudio Connect.
There are three tiers of RStudio Connect Azure available:
- RStudio Connect Base - 20 Users
- RStudio Connect Standard - 100 Users
- RStudio Connect Enterprise - 1000 Users
Step-by-step instructions for getting started with RStudio Connect Azure and pricing details are found at the links above and in this support article. For information about configuring RStudio Connect, please see the administration guide. Additional questions are addressed below.
Why would I buy RStudio Connect Azure, rather than RStudio Connect to install on my own Azure servers or my internal IT servers?
RStudio Connect Azure is best suited for users looking to build a proof of concept for RStudio Connect or users with high compute requirements that can benefit from hourly pricing. RStudio Connect Azure is also an attractive option for customers who want a hosted, persistent version of RStudio Connect without needing to purchase it directly from us.
Does RStudio Connect Azure have all the same features as the on-premises RStudio Connect product?
Yes. The biggest difference is that RStudio Connect Azure is a pre-configured server with RStudio Connect and multiple versions of R and Python already installed.
What operating system is RStudio Connect Azure based on?
The RStudio Connect Azure image is based on Ubuntu 16.04.
What version of R is part of the default installation for RStudio Connect Azure?
RStudio Connect Azure comes with R versions 4.1.2, 4.0.5, 3.6.3, 3.5.3, and 3.4.4 preinstalled.
What version of python is part of the default installation for RStudio Connect Azure?
RStudio Connect Azure comes with Python version 3.8.9 preinstalled.
How will I be charged for RStudio Connect Azure?
You will receive a bill from Azure for your Azure Marketplace charges, which will include a calculation of the hourly fee for the software multiplied by the number of hours any instance with this software was running.
How do I change the default configuration for RStudio Connect Azure?
You have full control over the virtual machine that RStudio Connect is running on. Once your virtual machine is running, you can access it via SSH and make any changes to the configuration file or the instance itself. Specific instructions for connecting to your machine can be found by selecting your machine from your Azure dashboard and then clicking on Connect in the top menu bar of the overview page.
Detailed information about the configuration options available for RStudio Connect can be found in the administration guide. You can also use this method to install any additional system dependencies, R installations, or python installations you may need.
Can I perform an in-place upgrade of RStudio Connect?
In-place upgrades for RStudio Connect are not supported through the marketplace. If you would like an upgraded version of RStudio Connect, you will need to choose an updated marketplace offering if one is available, or install and configure the latest version on your infrastructure. A guideline for updating marketplace offerings is available here.
