Renewing your Posit Package Manager license is quite easy. After you have purchased a license renewal, you will receive an email with a license file or key that can be used to activate the license on a given system.
The license file solution is robust and our most seamless licensing method. It is designed to work both in an offline and online environment when properly applied and will bypass common licensing problems observed in containerized or automated deployments. It uses a separate method for activation as compared to our traditional license key instructions documented online. We now send license files by default, and we are currently in the process of updating all of our license keys to a license file format, which we anticipate will resolve many licensing-related issues that our customers face today.
For additional information, please see this section of our documentation.
To activate your license file, transfer the license file to the server hosting Posit Package Manager, ensure ownership and read permissions for the PPM service user, and activate it with the commands:
$ sudo chown rstudio-pm <license-file>.lic
$ sudo chmod 0600 <license-file>.lic
$ sudo cp -a <license-file>.lic /var/lib/rstudio-pm/
$ sudo systemctl restart rstudio-pm
Then, to check the status of the license, run this command:
$ sudo /opt/rstudio-pm/bin/license-manager status
