You can install any version of R or any package on your AWS instance of RStudio Workbench. RStudio Workbench on AWS marketplace is simply an Ubuntu Bionic EC2 instance with some extra packages. Customizations are done via SSH just as with any other EC2 instance. You will need to pick a key to install during the run instance steps that will allow you to make changes to your environment.
